Gary Lass PG, CEG, CHg - President
Mr. Lass, President of GLA, has more than 30 years of experience managing a full range of geotechnical, hydrogeologic, and environmental investigation and construction projects. He is a specialist in all aspects of landfill siting, design, monitoring, remediation, and closure. Mr. Lass has been instrumental in the development of the monolithic alternative final cover concept. He provides his clients with expertise in negotiating landfill regulations (27CCR and 40CFR).
 
Brian Constant PE, GE - Executive Vice President, Geo-Logic Associates - Anaheim
Mr. Constant has over 30 years experience in the direct application of geotechnical engineering to a full range of project requirements. This has included rail, highway, and bridge designs; plant facilities; residential, commercial, institutional and industrial development; hydraulic structures, pipelines, and impoundments; forensic studies landfills; marine structures; and seismic foundation design. Analytical evaluations have included liquefaction and seismically induced settlement and their mitigation. Mr. Constant has been directly responsible for the design and review of more than 75 rail and highway bridges and over 500 miles of major highway alignment. Related expertise includes heavy foundations subject to static and seismic loading, shoring and dewatering, construction on soft ground, and slope stabilization.
 
Sarah Battelle PG, CHg - Vice President, Geo-Logic Associates - San Diego
Ms. Battelle has over 30 years of experience in geology, hydrogeology, and environmental programs. She has served as field geologist, project manager, and principal-in-charge for landfill groundwater monitoring and reporting programs at more than 40 sites in California. She provides expertise in all aspects of design, implementation, monitoring, and reporting for Detection Monitoring, Evaluation/Assessment Monitoring, and Corrective Action Programs.
 
Stacy Baird - Vice President, Geo-Logic Associates - San Bernardino
Mr. Baird is Geo-Logic Associates' Construction Services Manager, and has over 20 years of experience participating in a wide variety of geotechnical and construction quality assurance projects throughout California. This work has included field investigations, geologic hazard assessments, landfill liner system design review and construction quality assurance, and landfill final cover system design review and construction quality assurance. Mr. Baird also serves as the Manager for Geo-Logic Associates' Environmental Sampling Crew. In this capacity, Mr. Baird is responsible for sampling crew training, equipment procurement, scheduling, and coordination of sampling activities with project managers and clients.
 
Ralph Muphy PG, CEG, CHg - Vice President, Geo-Logic Associates - San Bernardino
Mr. Murphy is a California Certified Engineering Geologist and Hydrogeologist with more than 25 years experience in a full-range of geotechnical and environmental projects. Mr. Murphy's geologic, geotechnical, and hydrogeologic activities have included supervision and management of numerous site characterization studies for geotechnical and environmental projects, geologic hazard evaluations, fault investigations, subsurface exploration, engineering analyses, hydrogeologic studies to determine the nature and extent of groundwater contamination, evaluation and design of remediation systems, preparation of permitting and compliance reports, and construction review.
 
Lam Dang - Laboratory Manager, Geo-Logic Associates - Anaheim
Mr. Dang serves at Laboratory Manager and brings 25 years of experience in managing Geo-Logic Associates' full-service, state-of-the-art geotechnical laboratory. In this capacity, Mr. Dang is responsible for apparatus maintenance and calibration, and testing soils in support of landfill, public works, transportation, commercial, and residential design and construction projects.
 
Peter Anderson, PG, CEG - Chief Operating Officer, Pacific Geotechnical Engineering - Morgan Hill
Mr. Anderson formed Pacific Geotechnical Engineering in 1988. He has over 30 years of experience managing and conducting all types of geologic, fault evaluation, and geotechnical investigations for residential and commercial development project throughout central California and the Bay area. He has extensive experience helping developers, land planners and jurisdictional authorities determine optimum land use capabilities of parcels encumbered by adverse geologic conditions. As a result of the high standards of his technical performance, he has been awarded prestigious positions performing peer review services in three counties and six cities in the southern San Francisco Bay Area.
 
Chalerm (Beeson) Liang, PE, GE - Principal Geotechnical Engineer, Pacific Geotechnical Engineering - Morgan Hill
Mr. Liang has 28 years of diversified experience in geotechnical engineering. Many of his projects require innovative and effective solutions for difficult soil conditions such as expansive soil, liquefiable soil, soft soil, and Bay Mud. He has successfully managed projects for transportation, water supply and distribution, and educational, military, and commercial facilities of various sizes. His Route 101/85 North Interchange Project for Santa Clara County Valley Transportation Authority was completed on budget, on time, and met every delivery deadline during the three years duration of the project.
 
Craig Kunkel, PE - Chief Operating Officer, Kunkel Engineering - Beaver Dam, Wisconsin
Mr. Kunkel brings over 25 years of experience in all aspects of design and client services for municipal engineering projects. His expertise lies in design, permitting, and municipal engineering for wastewater treatment, water utility/distribution, and water resource projects. He has extensive knowledge in funding initiatives and procurement for Federal, State, and local agencies assisting in municipalities with project financing. Mr. Kunkel has worked extensively with State and Federal agencies, including the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Natural Resources to gain funding for public works projects.
 
Scott Purdy, CEG, PG - Principal Geologist - Grass Valley
Mr. Purdy is a certified engineering geologist with 27 years of experience as a consultant working on a wide range of projects throughout the continental United States, Asia, Africa, and South America. Based in our Grass Valley office, his professional experience includes environmental, civil, geologic, and geotechnical engineering, landfill and liner system design, and construction management. His accomplishments include building a successful solid waste business from the ground up. The projects that Mr. Purdy has managed include the design and quality assurance of over 150 million square feet of geosynthetic and clay liners, landfill closures utilizing clay, synthetic, and monolithic soil covers, landfill siting, hydrogeological characterizations, and permitting of waste disposal projects including Class I, II, and III landfills as well as waste treatment and recycling facilities. As a certified engineering geologist, he is also involved with the geotechnical and geological investigations associated with waste disposal projects. Mr. Purdy has published over 15 technical papers in the field of solid waste containment and conducted landfill and geosynthetic design seminars in the United States, Mexico, Chile, Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines.
 
Jake Russell, PE - Manager, Engineering Services / Manager, Grass Valley Office
Mr. Russell started his career after completing his engineering degree at Humboldt State University in California. He is the Operations Manager of the Grass Valley office and also manages engineering projects. His professional evolution began as a staff engineer providing design support. He then supervised the CAD department and eventually worked into a project management role. Mr. Russell is a registered civil engineer in California, Colorado, Utah, Oregon, and Montana. He is responsible for the civil design and permitting of solid waste and impoundment projects throughout the United States and abroad. He manages the engineering at several sites, prepares design reports, waste characterization studies, SPCCPs, SWPPPs, permit documents, geotechnical investigations, seismic hazard studies, stability analyses, and surface hydrology studies. He has experience in managing construction quality assurance (CQA) projects for the installation of liner systems at solid waste landfills.
 
Bryan Fritzler, PE - Manager, Field Services / Manager, Colorado Office
Mr. Fritzler has 21 years of professional experience in project management, environmental, civil and geotechnical engineering, design, and construction management. He is the Manager of Field Services and also the manager of the Colorado office. Mr. Fritzler has managed and provided CQA for over 40 million square feet of geosynthetic liner installation, 8 million cubic yards of final cover and earthen material placement and 3 million cubic yards of clay liner. Mr. Fritzler started his career in construction support and resident engineering. Some of his first years were spent as a construction / resident engineer on complex, hazardous waste landfill sites. He now oversees CQA projects at GLA and is responsible for coordination with owners, contractors, design engineers, and regulatory agents.
 
Doug Junk - Senior Project Manager / Manager, Arizona Office
Mr. Junk is a civil and environmental project manager with nearly 20 years of experience in solid waste and landfill engineering. He has experience in both the public and private sectors of solid waste management and has held a variety of positions utilizing his engineering background. Mr. Junk's experience includes solid waste facility planning, permitting, operations, and environmental compliance, operational remediation experience in landfill gas (LFG) collection systems, leachate collection systems, subsurface barrier systems, and groundwater treatment systems. He has designed and constructed landfill liner systems, landfill gas collection systems, and has been involved in regulatory negotiations and compliance. Mr. Junk also provides technical direction to complex projects including: budgetary management, divestitures and acquisitions, interaction with clients and regulatory officials, oversight of field and staff personnel, and developing projects from conceptual to operational.
 
Monte Christie, PE, GE - Senior Geotechnical Engineer - Grass Valley
Mr. Christie is the principal geotechnical engineer in our Grass Valley office location and has 17 years of experience performing geotechnical engineering projects in the Americas and Asia. He is knowledgeable in all facets of geotechnical design for landfill and mining projects including final cover and base liner containment systems, geosynthetic applications, unsaturated and saturated flow modeling, grading, field investigations, settlement and slope stability analyses, seismic response and deformation analyses, leachate collection systems, and surface water and erosion control. His experience includes tailings and heap leach design, pit slope design, and construction support. Mr. Christie manages ongoing construction quality assurance projects for several landfill sites. His diverse project management experience also includes several mining sites. His international project experience includes Chile, Peru, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Vietnam and Indonesia.
